2025-2026 Transparency Report

Date of Hazing Incident(s): On or around Feb. 9-11, 2026

Date Reported: Feb. 12, 2026

Dates of Investigation: Feb. 17 and 18, 2026

Type of Resolution: Informal Disposition

Date of Resolution: March 9, 2026

Incident Description

On February 12, 2026, an anonymous report was received regarding potential hazing activities taking place within the Phi Delta Theta chapter at the University of Missouri. The alleged actions included potential new members of the spring 2026 class having to throw food at one another and required to clean up the food while being screamed at. The report also alleged potential new members were blindfolded, got onto an elevated surface, instructed to drop a glass bottle in front them while being yelled at, and told to jump, however a mattress was placed in front of them before they jumped.

The investigative report indicates that members of Phi Delta Theta corroborated the incidents as alleged in the initial report. The investigation supports that Phi Delta Theta new members participated in activities in which they threw food at one another and cleaned it up afterward. The investigation also supports that new members were blindfolded, directed to stand on an elevated surface, instructed to drop a glass bottle, and told to jump, after which they landed on a mattress placed below. Witness testimony was consistent that these activities occurred and had taken place in prior years. No witnesses reported physical injury, and all indicated that alcohol was not present. These events took place late at night, in the chapter facility with many active members present, including officers. At least one night, new members did not return to their residence halls until after 1 a.m. The investigation further found that these activities involved elements that could reasonably create psychological pressure, including blindfolding, darkened environments, loud music, metal banging, and verbal remarks from observing members. While some participants characterized the atmosphere as light-hearted, others described it as intentionally disorienting.
